What's LARP?
A live action role-playing game, or LARP, is a natural way of playing, learning, and exercising your imagination. You probably did this when you were a kid without even having a name for it.
You may have played cops and robbers, or had an invisible leopard named Boomerang (that second one may have just been me). LARP is the same, but developed in a way to offer entertainment, education, social awareness, and a plethora (I like this word) of other amazing possibilities.
LARP is assuming an alternate identity (alias or character) in a fictitious or historical setting for a duration of time. You may be given a character, maybe choose a character from a list, or (like in this game) a set of rules will be provided so you can build your own character.
I always suggest joining the Forsaken Isle community to ask any questions, or to get in contact with an organizer.

What's the Forsaken Isle?Welcome to the live action role-playing (LARP) Forsaken Isle. This game has elements of fantasy, survival, and a dash of horror.
The LARP is designed as a campaign, boffer game. Its primary focus is cooperative, but with the potential for character vs character action. I wanted a game where you didn’t have to attend every event to make progress, a campaign game where you didn’t feel obligated to come in order to ‘build’ your character. Instead I wanted to design a game that was about the fun and experience of playing over leveling-up. That’s not to say you won’t advance your character, there are secrets to uncover, items to find, people to meet, and most importantly you have a story to live… If you survive. |
What do I think is unique about this game?
- The adventure starts when you die! No seriously, all characters in the game have been wrongly accused of an assortment of executable crimes, but they don't die. Instead the characters end up marooned on the Forsaken Isle, outside of a place called Darkhold.
- No levels! You can play casually, or come out to every game. If you do come out every time it's about the character development and story, not about earning experience points. All of your mechanical choices are done up front.
- One life only. Don't get us wrong there's still resurrection through player chosen spells, but if you die you die.
- Designed for different time formats. The game uses a stamina system rather than a daily refresh system so we can have evening, day long , weekend long, and even longer games without having to worry about the mechanics breaking down.
- You only get one item to bring in with you (other than the clothes you were buried in) so pick wisely.
- No damage calls! We use an effect calling system. What the effect does is built right into the call. You can talk, grunt and curse while in a fight!
- Crafting is done during games not between game! Stamina and resources being your only limiting factors.
- Low Lore buy in. Okay, I love lore and we want lots of it, but the game is setup so you only need the basic setting details. Learn as you go or forge a new path working with the organization team.
- Representative armour and a choice between boffer arrow and packet archery. We are past the days when cool armour could only be made of actual 16 gauge steel or cow hide.
- All effect calls are one minute, no more trying to memorize a plethora of effect timers, you can count to 60 right? Great!
- In games where there is staying over night we have an opt-in sleep in game system. It's never assumed that you will be sleeping in-game.
- Opt-in Character vs Character. This doesn't mean you can't attack and gravely wound another character temporarily taking them out of the action, but you will not be able to kill a character unless they agree to it.
- This isn't a franchise game, if you think it would run in your area just let us know and we can help you get one going.
